This is something I put together as a bit of fun, a bit of an experiment, seeing whether I could do it. I love all three KNIVES OUT films, so I thought I’d mock up some covers in the style of vintage Penguin crime books - using the iconic Marber grid formatting, as well as their approach to graphically integrating grainy photography with stark illustrative graphics.
Each cover provided its own challenges - how best to capture the story in the one distinctive visual, how to ensure that they weren’t too cluttered, how to stick to the strict black-and-white colour scheme - but I am very pleased with how they turned out. They’re exactly as I imagined them, and could fit very nicely among the tattered paperbacks you’d find in your grandparents’ attic.
