If there’s one thing I love, it’s book design. If there are TWO things I love, they’re book design and horror. Years ago, I designed a cover for Joe Hill’s gothic thriller HORNS. Since then, I have trained myself to be a far more considerate and skilful designer, so I wanted to go back and redesign it to reflect both my design capabilities AND, crucially, Hill’s style / target demographic.

My original cover catered far more to a young adult market, not to adult horror/thriller fans, who are more likely to pick up a Joe Hill book. I was also fascinated by how publishers create brands for their authors via consistent cover styles - applicable to their entire bibliography - so I thought I’d try my hand at creating a series of covers in a regular, though flexible, format. While I succeeded in creating a uniform brand identity for Joe Hill, I did so without losing what makes each of his books unique.
