I did the first Summer Duckie illustration in 2023, but for the longest time wanted to give him a beach background to vacation in. I had a lot of fun figuring out the exact textures for the sand, the sea and the sky - and especially for the rocks on either side. The work of Peter Brown (The Wild Robot, The Curious Garden, etc.) was a major influence on the background.
